EARTH
Our home. After the Darkness swept over us, we found the Traveler where it made its last stand. Beneath, we built The City – our last – within its protective aura. From here, Guardians stand watch, defend our civilization, and strike out into the wild frontiers of Earth – and beyond – to reclaim our lost worlds.MARS
What little we know of Mars may as well be a myth. We built a massive metropolis in the red dust. The Darkness swept nearly all of it away; the sand itself claimed the rest. No one knows what remains of our lost age, now buried beneath the dunes.MOON
Like Earth, the ruins of humanity's former glory can be found scattered across the familiar lunar surface. Recent exploration attempts have been repulsed, reporting increased enemy activity, and even strange tectonic phenomenon. The City has since classified the Moon as a "Forbidden Zone," open only to our most brave and experienced Guardians.VENUS
Venus was once the site of great discovery – a paradise. Now, it is a monument to all that we have lost. The old stories say we built an academy dedicated to learning and research on the shore of a wondrous sea, and that the waters themselves boiled and rose up to shatter the coast, washing away all that we had built.ENEMIES
CABAL
Few Guardians have faced Cabal and lived to tell the tale. They are a professional military operation. On every front we have found them on the march, they have already dug in and ringed their installations with razor wire. Now, it seems they've turned their eyes towards us.FALLEN
Fallen are hardy creatures who can survive in a wide range of environments without heavy armor or complex modifications to their physiology. They travel light, hit hard, and are gone before you know it. Fallen may look like mere scavengers, but on closer inspection you will see hints of a splendid, sophisticated past, and the proud markings of their ancestral "Houses."HIVE
Hive manipulate the physical world in ways that we can only begin to imagine. The Hive have carved a kingdom deep into the lifeless core of the Moon, and it is there they remain, silent and buried among many dark and terrible secrets, a reminder of the tremendous power that brought forth the Collapse.VEX
Scattered reports indicate that the Vex appear to be mass-produced machine units, constructed of an unknown metal alloy resembling hammered brass. All attempts to communicate with them have failed. They are hostile. They are unrelenting. They are deadly.Videos

The biggest let down for me so far is that you cannot simply team with people you run into in the world. I thought that's how MMOs are supposed to work! The fact that you have to team with someone on your friend's list is a pain in the neck. I work all week and I do not have time for organizing teams, clans, etc, and I just want to do things on the fly, like I can do with countless other games in co-op modes (such as GoW). I really hope they fix that issue.
The PvP is pretty fun so far, but I have only played maybe 10 games of it. There could be more maps, and nothing beats close range shotgun to the face. Although I am low level now (around 11 or 12) and I see many people with 20-24 and they seem to take me out in 2 seconds with a ranged weapon. That's okay, if you're a hunter and you have gunslinger, you pretty much have 3 one-shot kills no matter who you are facing!
Another issue for me is the low sensitivity. This has always been an issue with Halo. I always maximize the sensitivity, and it's still too darn slow! I guess I am used to PC FPSs, and I sometimes use the Xim Edge or CronusMax on my consoles, so that I can use the mouse/keyboard combo. I have not tried that yet with Destiny, but it will probably be like Halo...too slow.
The story is pretty cool so far, but it seems like it will be short. I have read that Activision/Bungie expect this game to last 10 years, so they better have a lot of things in mind. The level cap of 20 is kinda funny since I saw people 2 days after release have it, but I suspect they will raise it with expansions.
I really hope that the game is not all hype. I have already been extremely disappointed with other new releases like NHL 15 (I refuse to buy it at the current price point because EA did not include so many features), but I hope that Destiny will not make me regret paying for it with the new price tag. I still have some hope because the game had a ridiculous development budget. I work in software, so I guess I expected more.
I will gladly update my review in the future. For now, I just hope to get on-the-fly party/fireteam teaming when I'm out in the open. I don't like solo missions sometimes because I feel my Hunter is a bit gimpy, even if I am 2-3 levels above the level of the mission.
Part of me also wishes there was more ammo in single player mode. I understand limited ammo in multiplayer, and yes, I know that enemies drop ammo, but I remember playing my first fireteam/strike mission on Earth where I would EASILY run out of ammo while trying to take out the boss. My team had to keep killing the boring side mobs to get more ammo, that we would then just to dump into that giant machine spider thingy.
I almost gave this game 2 stars, but I decided on a 3rd because I think you can still have fun at low levels in multiplayer, and you can always level up in multiplayer to make it a little easier in single player missions. Also, the game looks amazing on next-gen consoles. Anyway, I hope to generate some discussion about this game. Does anyone agree/disagree with my pros/cons?

Update: 10/8/14
I am level 19 now (slowly making my way through the story and doing some more multiplayer) and I am still disappointed in this game. The missions are so repetitive, and it's easy to run out of ammo on these missions. The Vex don't drop nearly enough IMO. I just did a couple missions on Mars. I still really want to like this game more. The story is just blah.
I would really love the ability to team with people on the fly for story missions. Otherwise, you can do some leveling from patrol missions. There is a new multiplayer mode after the latest update, but I can't tell the difference between it and regular Control.
Update: 7/20/15
I am changing my review to 5 stars because even though Bungie does things to tick me off, the game is very addictive. They are going to nerf the gally and some other weapons, but they will find a way to make you continue playing this game
This game is all about end-game content, so you will keep redoing raids and such. Just find a nice group and you will have more fun than just lone-wolfing by trying to get teams on destinylfg.
Bungie, developers of the classic Halo franchise team up with Activision to bring us something fresh.
First off, I can definitely feel alot of their Halo roots in this game. (Which is a good thing by the way.)
Originally I was going to give this game 4 stars for a few reasons, but changed it to 5 last minute because I believe any of my complaints will be addressed with DLCs in the future.
First, let's start with the positives. Graphically, it's beautiful. By far it's number one selling point is the aesthetics...the art direction is top notch, as you'd expect with a 500 million dollar budget. Combine this with excellent audio, they've done an excellent job at creating a next-gen worthy atmosphere. But like I said, that is to be expected with a 500 million dollar budget...lol.
Firefights are fun, they just feel satisfying. I will admit I haven't gotten too try raids, as the game just released today. It's unfortunate that they weren't able to add matchmaking for them, you need to have people on your friends list for raids, which can be a pain to manage since people often have different schedules. For "lone wolves" like me, this is a problem I think Bungie will address, which is why I didn't take away a star for it, although I thought about it...I know it can and possibly will be added in the future.
The story is alright, not terrible and intriguing enough to peak my interest. Since it has been out for only a day now, I have hope there will be a satisfying ending in store for me, setting up for the obvious sequel coming. I might update this review in the future once I have completed it 100%.
I like how they have something for Co-Op players, some end game raids, and the Crucible for people who prefer PvP. It's a good "let's cover all our bases/player types" approach. Well played, Bungie.
Now, a few complaints.
I feel there are not enough classes, just one more would have been nice, 2 more would have been awesome. This is easily addressed with a DLC (probably paid.)
I wish there we're more class specific gear, I believe the only items that are class specific is chest armor.
A big downer is that this game requires an always on internet connection to be played. This isn't really an issue for me, since I have fast cable (like most people, probably)...but I know this pisses some people off and thought i'd post that reminder in this review for anyone reading.
It's nice to see Bungie try something new, this is their new Halo. and has huge shoes too fill. Overall, I think they have done a pretty good job. Compared to most games these days, the production value on Destiny is hands down top notch, but then again, they had a massive budget which certain helps.
My verdict: if you have a next-gen console, this is a must buy. I really look forward to the upcoming content DLCs in the future and seeing where they take this.

Mostly this game is about collecting a staggering amount of different currencies. Different currencies buy different guns and accessories for your guy. After level 20 it gets real.
